The New River Water Trail™ currently stretches 37 miles flowing through Southwest Virginia in beautiful Giles County. The water trail is visitors and residents’ gateway to Virginia’s Mountain Playground™. This community effort highlights river activities like award-winning fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, SUP, and swimming, but also connects with hiking trails, wildlife viewing, local lodging and dining options, and the immense variety of experiences waiting in Giles County. We invite you to explore the New River with access via public and private boat landings and river access, we encourage you to reach out to a local guide or outfitter to enhance your river adventure (see listings for contact information), and we welcome you to enjoy the New River Water Trail.

In Giles County the majestic New River has depth ranges from a very few inches to a maximum of one hundred feet at the base of the towering Palisade Cliffs in Eggleston. The New River is home to many species of freshwater game fish including bass, trout, walleye, muskellunge, crappie, bluegill, carp, flathead and channel catfish.
